David currently serves on the Athens-Clarke County Hearings Board, and has acquired valuable insight into the many zoning issues that arise in Athens-Clarke County. David works as a law clerk for the Superior Courts of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit where he has gained experience in local government law and has a keen understanding of the legal ramifications of governmental decision making. David believes his training as an attorney would have a positive impact on the Commission and provide a legal perspective that has been absent from the Commission for many years.
As Commissioner, David Ellison wants to promote economic development, preserve the character of Athens, and advocate for government transparency and accountability. More importantly, he wants to listen to all citizens and hear every perspective and viewpoint. Athens faces many challenges and opportunities that will affect both the short and long-term future of our community, and David believes that all citizens deserve to have their voices heard. Above all, he wants to be a problem solver and provide practical solutions for the many issues confronting Athens-Clarke County.
David has been an Athens, GA resident since 1990. David and his wife, Lauren, live in Five Points and enjoy its walkable features and unique charm. David graduated from Athens Academy in 2003 before attending Vanderbilt University, where he double majored in History and Political Science and minored in Art History. David returned to Athens and graduated, with honors, from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2010. Lauren also graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law and practices law in Athens and the surrounding area.
David looks forward to the campaign, and is excited at the prospect of serving his hometown and representing his neighbors in District 4.
